What I do

Most photographers light for the room.
I light for the person in it.

Deep skin tones are easy to lose. Underexpose and they go flat, overexpose and they go grey, and either way the person in the frame stops looking like themselves. Getting it right is a technical problem, and it is most of what I have spent the last few years solving.

The result is a portrait where the shadows still have detail in them and the face still has dimension. It works on everyone. It matters most to the people who have sat for photographs before and not recognised what came back.

At first, I wasn’t sure how to be in front of the camera. I questioned myself, how I looked, how I moved, whether I belonged there at all. Session by session, I started showing up differently. I stopped overthinking. I started trusting.
